About this region
The temperate flora of Africa is mostly found along the northern and southern coasts of this vast continent.
The majority of our collection comes from South Africa, a biodiversity hotspot.
It’s an area of huge conservation value, extraordinarily high diversity and endemism of plant species. So much so that scientists have assigned South Africa its own floral kingdom – The Cape Floristic Region.
The plants have developed a wide range of adaptive traits, allowing for efficient use of water and resilience to fire.
